Concept
A fast-food cup that had been discarded on the street was gone—cleaned up by someone—when I passed by the same spot a few hours later. Even though the plants in the flowerbeds may appear unchanged from year to year, each individual leaf undergoes a metabolic cycle; even if they look exactly the same, they are changing little by little, but surely. I wanted to preserve as artworks these things that are not actively archived—things that would normally be dismissed as mere background. This work uses a green screen as its backing. A green screen is a device used in video production and online meetings to “display what is needed” while simultaneously “erasing what is unnecessary.” In this series, the device intended to erase the background instead serves to highlight the very things that are “erased.”
