Clear Vision Fuji

Concept

For this work, I have used a green screen as the backing. A green screen is a device used in video production and online meetings to “project what is needed” while simultaneously “erasing what is unnecessary.” Archiving is also the act of preserving only carefully selected fragments while discarding everything else. I want to turn my attention to those “things that fall through the cracks.” Archiving is not about complete preservation; it is an act of constant updating and perpetual loss. It is perhaps in those missing parts that the reality of our times resides. Within the work, fragments of reality from different places and times, as well as bits of information from the internet, float freely. These fragments take shape and gain weight upon the physical surface of the painting. This is my personal archive of our times and a modest resistance against the impossibility of eternity. For this series, I have chosen Mount Fuji as my motif, as seen from Kunitachi City. As the city develops, the shape of Mount Fuji visible from here also changes. As high-rise buildings are constructed, Mount Fuji becomes increasingly obscured. I am recording the current appearance of Mount Fuji here.
