Concept
This work uses a green screen as its medium. A green screen is a device used in video production and online meetings to “project what is needed” while simultaneously “erasing what is unnecessary.” Archiving is also the act of preserving only carefully selected fragments while discarding everything else. I want to turn my attention to those “things that fall through the cracks.” Archiving is not about complete preservation; it is an act that is constantly updated and perpetually incomplete. It is perhaps in those missing parts that the reality of our times resides. Within the work, fragments of reality from different places and times, as well as bits of information from the internet, float freely. These fragments take shape and gain weight upon the physical surface of the painting. This is my personal archive of our times and a modest resistance against the impossibility of eternity. This work consists of GIFs of stickers used in Instagram Stories. President Trump, who has been causing a stir in the global political landscape, is depicted here performing an iconically comical dance. Detached from its political context, it has become a meme.
