Clear Vision: Lights Off

When novels or manga are adapted into live-action or animated films, there are times when I find myself thinking, “Huh? This scene was cut…” Since the story has to be condensed into a limited two-hour runtime, I often convince myself that the only scenes worth cutting are everyday moments unrelated to the main plot or unnecessary dialogue. But even when I watch a version where only the key points have been neatly organized and condensed, I still don’t quite feel the same emotional impact I experienced in the original work… At times like that, I find myself thinking about the significance of the scenes that were left out. This work uses a green screen as its backdrop. A green screen is a device used in video production and online meetings to “show what’s needed” while simultaneously “removing what’s unnecessary.” In this series, however, the very device meant to remove the background actually serves to highlight “what is being removed.”
